York Industrial Ragged School
Bedern Arch Goodramgate York
|
|
History
The once medieval home of the Minister’s Vicars Choral in the 16th century was sadly to become an area associated with slims and warehouses during Victorian times. The building became known as a workhouse and orphanage, named the York Industrial Ragged School in the mid 19th century. The master of the school was paid handsomely to round up waifs and strays and put them to work but he spent little on actually looking after the orphans. Many died of maltreatment and the panicking the boss locked the corpses in a large cupboard. As time went on the guilt of his actions drove the master insane and he eventually cracked, running through the school killing and stabbing any remaining children with a knife.
Paranormal Activity
It said by some that the faint sound of children playing can be heard which changes into screams of terror.
