The B3212 on Dartmoor
The B3212 between Postbridge and Two Bridges.

History
Paranormal Activity
A stretch of road on Dartmoor has seen an unusually high number of motor accidents since the 20th Century. Since the early 1900s drivers and motorcyclists have reported the feeling of being forced off the road between Postbridge and Two Bridges on the B3212 as if something or someone had grabbed control. Some reports have even been of disembodied hands that appear suddenly from nowhere and so the legend was born of the Hairy Hands.
In most cases victims survived and not much was taken seriously until that of the case of Dr. E.H. Helby in June 1921. A medical officer for Dartmoor Prison he was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle whilst his children who survived to tell the tale were travelling in the sidecar. Just several weeks later another incident took place of a coach driver who lost control, injuring several passengers and then on August 26th 1921 an army Captain reported being forced off the road. Soon the old legends were being picked up by London papers and the incidents were taken more seriously.
Investigations took place and theories were put forward of that maybe the road’s surface was dangerous and so the road was altered. Speed limits have been introduced to slow down drivers who weren’t familiar with the area to prevent them from driving too fast and hitting livestock or veering off suddenly.
However not all reports were from moving vehicles. A woman in 1924 was camping on the moor in her caravan and during the night awoke to the sound of scratching on the window. Upon looking to see where the strange noise came from she saw two large hairy hands trying to clamber into her caravan. In shock and fear she immediately did the sign of the cross and thus they disappeared.
To this day no one has managed to get conclusive evidence to the strange reports on the B3212. Locals attribute it to that of an unnamed man who died in an accident on the same road many years ago but some say it could be the devil himself.
