History
Elizabeth Wyatt inherited the Maltings from her father in 1780 and was given to her granddaughter Elizabeth Gibson as a wedding gift in 1859. The property was built between 1490 and 1520 as a merchant’s storehouse for buying and selling saffron. The building is now used as a youth hostel.
Paranormal Activity
The cellar here has the greatest activity recorded with sightings of shadowy figures and partial manifestations but throughout the building strange footsteps and objects moving or coming on by their selves have also been recorded. Strange temperature drops and the feeling of heaviness have been felt by visitors to the Maltings and many investigations at the property have felt a strong male presence, the feeling of children and the spirit of a woman known as Elizabeth or Elsie.
