Berkeley Castle

History
The same family has lived in Berkeley Castle for over 900 years. It is where history has been made. Where Edward II was murdered, where the Barons of the West gathered before Magna Carta and where Queen Elizabeth I hunted and played bowls. Where other Castles were romanticised or "modernised" by the Georgians or the Victorians, Berkeley quietly survived as what it is: a Norman fortress with an enclosing curtain wall, built and enlarged through the mediaeval period and beyond into a secure, comfortable, substantial home.
Paranormal Activity
This castle is reported to be haunted by the ghost and screams of Edward II who was tortured to death at the castle with a red-hot poker. His agonising screams are said to be seen and heard at night.

Berkeley Gloucestershire

|
History
Graffiti adorns this former home of vaccine inventor Dr Edward Jenner from soldiers previously billeted in the attic rooms from the 19th and 20th Centuries. Dr Edward Jenner, who was born in 1749, is credited with inventing vaccination. He lived in the Grade II listed building from 1785 until his death in 1823 and it was here that he pioneered world-changing vaccination against smallpox.
Paranormal Activity
This former home of vaccine inventor Dr Edward Jenner is famous for a strange photograph that seems to show a portly, 18th Century man sitting in a chair between two beds in the attic taken by a BBC reporter. The attic rooms previously closed to the public is now opening it up for visitors.
