Dame Dorothy sent a letter to Lord Monteagle and told him not to attend Parliament on 5th November 1605. This led to the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot and supporters of Guy Fawkes blamed her for its failure. They locked her in a small secret room in this house and left her to die.
Her bones were only discovered at the end of the 19th Century by some workmen. The house emits a strange chill, especially within the tower.
