Clifton Hall

Holgate
Nottingham
NG11 8NH
Clifton Hall

History

Clifton Hall is a grade I listed building and was originally the home of the Clifton family during the Norman Conquest and was probably built for its defense location on a cliff summit overlooking the Clifton Village and the River Trent.

In later years the original watch tower was converted into a stately home and was continually modified up until the 1780s and became host to various guests such as King Charles I in 1632 who occupied a bedroom at the top of the circular staircase.

Paranormal Activity

This large mansion has been reported to have some rather horrific goings on ranging from mysterious figures appearing as real children of the owners of the property, unexplained tapping on the walls and strange voices. Even unexplained bloodstains have been known to appear on bedclothes.

Pleasley Vale Mills

Pleasley Vale Mills Business Park
Mansfield
Nottinghamshire

Pleasley Vale Mills

History

Pleasley Vale Mills, a cotton spinning mill, was built in 1784 at Pleasley Forge on the River Meden, and came into operation in 1799. By 1801 the population at Pleasley was so small that children had to be employed, working long hours for little money. In 1941 part of the mill was cleared out to make room for British Small Arms Company making anti-tank guns. Pleasley ceased operation as a working mill in 1987 and is today used for employment-creating activities. After being neglected for years Mill Number One was partly renovated.

Paranormal Activity

Although ghostly activity is well known throughout the mills, the most frequent spirit is a man actually seen outside, so solid looking that workers delivering containers at night go over and speak to him, but then they complain that he does not reply. A ghostly male figure has been seen walking from the Dye House into Mill Two and a lady in black has also been seen walking past people and through the wall of the reception room.
