A strange legend is attached to this pub of the ghost of nun, Rosamund The Fair. It is said her spirit haunts this pub after she was poisoned by King Henry II’s Queen. The King kept Rosamund as a concubine in Godstow Nunnery on Trout Island and would meet her in a labyrinth guarded by one of his knights who held a silver thread which led to Rosamund. The Queen furious with jealousy one day killed the knight, found Rosamund and forced her to drink poison.

Courtiers House is a red-brick Georgian mansion. It has been a school and an institution. In the 18th Century it was the home of Captain and Sarah Fletcher. He was a naval officer who was frequently away from home.
Paranormal Activity
Sarah was often left alone in the house by her husband and when he was home it was said he preferred the company of others.
At 29 she found he was arranging a bigamous marriage to another woman who was very rich. It is said Sarah went to the ceremony and stopped his treachery. The captain to his ship but Sarah could not take anymore. On the 7th June 1799, she went home and hanged herself from her bed with a pocket-handkerchief and a small piece of cord. It said that Sarah haunts this house and often a black cloaked figure wearing purple ribbon has been seen. Her gravestone can be found at Dorchester Abbey.
