History
Charlecote Park has been home to that of the Lucy family since the 15th Century and their stories can be known throughout the house by their portraits, the objects they have collected from around the world as well as their design influence on the house and surrounding parkland.
The house was remodelled during Victorian times by Mary Elizabeth Lucy and the gardens include a formal parterre, sensory garden, woodland walk and parkland, all of which were inspired by ‘Capability’ Brown. The gardens offer miles of walks and views across the River Avon and fallow deer have been spotted at the park since Tudor times.
Shakespeare is said to have written Ophelia’s death scene at this house, which has fuelled stories of a young lady who haunts the lakeside.
Paranormal Activity
Although many are sceptical of the reports of the haunting at Charlecote due to the belief that Shakespeare once wrote Ophelia’s death scene at this house, legend has it that a young girl once drowned herself here at the lakeside in the extensive gardens here. It has been reported that a mysterious girl in white now walks the area by the lakeside.

Warwick Castle

History
William the Conqueror built the first castle at Warwick, in 1068. Over the years the castle was gradually rebuilt in stone, and by the late 14th century Thomas de Beauchamp had finished an extensive building programme that transformed the defences of the castle, adding the huge gatehouse and barbican and two massive towers that still dominate the castle today. Later as the military importance of the castle declined, the main living quarters were converted into a palatial residence.
The castle was home to the Earls of Warwick until 1978 when it was bought by the Tussaud's Group. The castle has since been extensively restored, and the expertise of the Tussaud's Studios has been used to create wax figures that help portray life in the castle during different periods of its history.
Paranormal Activity
Murdered by a trusted servant, Sir Fulke is reputed to still spend time in his study, appearing in a misty form. In 1973, a cleaner reported hearing loud scratching sounds coming from a painting of Greville. Legend has it that after being caught stealing from her customers, an old servant at the castle was fired. In revenge, she bewitched the place - a large black dog appeared and created havoc. The creature was defeated by quotes from the bible read aloud by a local holy man. Appearing at least once at the castle prior to a death in the family, the phantom 'Dun Cow of Warwick' appears a few weeks before a death in the family. Way back in history, a member of the Warwick family killed the giant cow when it was a living creature terrorising estates across the land.
